Book launch: Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James 3rd May 2010
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010
Someone once told me he used to go to book launches for the sole purpose of scoring free food and wine. He was a student at the time, which made it excusable…almost. Not me, no siree. I go to book launches because there’s something exciting about being inside a bookshop after dark. And also because, when it comes to such solitary activities as reading, it’s pleasant to spend a night with fellow book-lovers. The social aspect (or lack thereof) of reading is not a new topic. The book blog, Just One More Page, hosted a meme on reading as a social or solitary activity late last year. Discussion from the many participatory bloggers revealed that, while in some cases, readers have found a way to reach out to each other in the non-virtual, real-life world through book clubs and the like, there are still many who are frustrated by the lack of face-to-face contact readers have with each other.
Now to the launch. (more…)
