The Book Show’s favourite short novels
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010
A listener wanted to know what the Book Show’s favourite short novels are. We had a feisty debate and while we didn’t want to replicate the other lists out there on the subject, it was conceded it had to be favourites which therefore means there’s inevitable overlap.
Ramona’s favourites are:
The Lover by Marguerite Duras
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann
Debra’s:
The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad
The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
Anita’s:
The Fall by Albert Camus
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce
Sarah’s:
Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
The Outsider by Albert Camus
And then there’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Animal Farm, Picture of Dorian Gray, Brave New World, 1984…..
Sarah L’Estrange
