A quick follow up on a few things we’ve mentioned on the show recently.

As part of our recent program about ‘dark tourism’ we interviewed Scott Stephens, the Editor of the ABC’s new online religion and ethics portal. Since we spoke to Scott that portal has launched. You can find a range of opinion pieces, features and highlights from recent ABC programs.

In March we did an interview with Dan Hill, part of an international team of designers involved with a futuristic project called The Cloud. Our sister program The Night Air recently used some of that interview as part of a feature called ‘What the Flock?‘, which looked at group dynamics, crowd behaviour and herding.

That’s all the links for now!

G’day Future Tense team.

I’m here in SW China keeping up to date with the podcasts, while on long bus trips or during the fair amount of free time between teaching English lessons.

I particularly enjoyed the tinkering stuff. I see it here in the form of housing DIY, for example drilling holes in walls for extra pipes.

Tinkering runs in the family too, like my bro’s ‘Digg-o-matic 3000′, shopping trolley, lawn-mower and scrap made into a rotary trench digger for our cubby house!

But I’d love to hear a programme specifically on female tinkerers.

The most obvious example is sewing. I often get my mum to sew extra belt loops on trousers for example. but it doesn’t have to stick to the stereotypes.

Keep up the good work Mitch

So, over to you. Any suggestions for female focussed tinkering?

And here are our progams on Tinkering from last year and a link to the Future Tense tinkering blog…

Hi, Antony Here…

In conjunction with Desta Itote’s report on online identity, we’re keen to hear from you – and see you – at least the picture/pictures you choose to represent yourself online. Send us the strangest online avatar or image that you’ve used.

And feel free to tell us why you’ve chosen it.

Here’s an image I’ve used on Facebook in the past, but in a case of do as I say not as I do, I’m going to squib on the explanation…

So send us your photo or image and tell us why you use it.

Jessica Sciberras writes…

comment: Is a photo of myself standing on top of a toilet seat, awkwardly mopping up a shower leakage. My friend took this photo of my while we were holidaying in Europe, and I thought that it describes me better than words ever can: any form of domestic activity looks unnatural when I attempt it.

And on Twitter from Jacki Johnson (@jacki_johnson)…

comment: @RNFutureTense haven’t used any creative identities but did have funny little issue when followers from US thought I was the weather girl!

And from Facebook Joy Keefe writes…

comment: This is one of my cocker spaniels. She’s much better looking in photos than me!
